Being two former students from the University of the West of Scotland Business School, myself and Alan, were recently invited back to the university to speak to current students about graduating and also how we use Search Engine Optimisation from an agency perspective.
Having actually met at the university whilst studying for our Masters Degree in Digital Marketing, this was a special visit for the pair of us.
We felt the most beneficial structure to discuss the inner workings of an impactive SEO strategy would be to essentially talk through the process we use with our clients and the tools involved in each stage, giving the students some practical knowledge to go alongside the theory they are taught in the course.
As our first interaction with our clients tends to be starting a web design project, naturally the first step in their SEO campaign would be on-page SEO audit and ensuring each page is optimised to be relevant to the keyword strategy. We discussed the steps in creating a keyword strategy for our clients and then elements that need to be optimised such as meta descriptions, page content, header tags and image optimisation.
Finally, we discussed how we then progress to an off-page seo campaign, building on the previous work and creating authority for the domain and pages. We spoke about our link building strategies, showing the students tools for outreach and ways to find opportunities such as broken links, guest blogging and traditional link building.
In the end the, workshop went down really well and it was great to pass on our knowledge to the next generation of UWS digital marketing students,
we even had time to try out some new virtual reality tech the programme leaders had just received!
Being former students of the course ourselves, we could not recommend it more. If you are interested in applying or finding out more information about studying MSc Digital Marketing at UWS Paisley, check out the video below.
